BillionGraves Golden Egg Contest has officially begun!
Week #4
It’s Wednesday! The week’s halfway over and we have our final BillionGraves Golden Egg Clue for you!
As always, we had amazing participation this past week with our clue on the Titanic. Photographers were able to capture several Golden Eggs of original Titanic passengers buried in England! What an amazing link to history! Thank you for your participation and amazing contributions who found 25 Golden Eggs around the world!! Keep up the great work!
Now, on to today’s clue: 44 years ago, a specific day was set aside in the United States, designed to increase public awareness on the environment.
What was the date (day, month and year) of the first celebration of Earth Day?

Earth Day may have been started in the United States, but it has turned into a worldwide celebration of environmental awareness and the preservation of the planet. On the 20th more than 200 million people in 141 countries participated in Earth Day celebrations! Although it may get celebrated differently in different areas across the globe, the message remains the same: PRESERVE.
All of us at BillionGraves and all of our contributors, transcribers and photographers understand that statement very well; our mission is to preserve the memories and information of those that have passed on. Now, get outside and into the cemeteries and find those final Easter Eggs! (Maybe pick up some trash on your way there in celebration of Earth Day!)
Remember to follow all the guidelines and rules to qualify for the challenge each week! A quick refresher on the basic rules:
- The clue will be for a specific date (day, month AND year) of a significant moment in national or global history that you will need to find on a headstone between the Wednesday and Sunday (11:59pm GMT) of that week.
- If you find a headstone with the special date as either the Birth or Death date (day, month AND year), you’ve found a BillionGraves Easter Egg!
- Take a picture and upload it to BillionGraves through the mobile application
- Copy and paste the URL into the comments section of this Blog post.

NOTICE:
- 1 egg winner per person per week. Multiple submissions will aid in the chance of getting the Golden Egg.
- Submissions of headstones will only be used if the full date is included on the inscription of the headstone. Unmarked graves or incomplete graves will not be included unless the actual original burial record (not just typed transcription of a burial index) is added to the record.
